Columns 16 are each surmounted by a head member 18 including a slotted member 24 having longitudinal slots 44 opening onto an upper axial end face of slotted member 24, and a cap 20 which can be screwed down into engagement with the end face to close off the axial ends of the slots. The slots 44 open onto the periphery of the slotted member 24 via restricted throat portions, so that radial withdrawal of fitments of complementary form, for example provided on the ends of horizontal barrier rails, can be prevented. The head member may have an axial passage therethrough, there being an internal clutch with an expandable collet 122 around the passage. An elongated insert may be inserted in the passage. Upon screwing cap 20 down, the flared portion of cap stem 28 engages and deforms collet 122 so that it grips the insert. <IMAGE> |
