1340946 Hay conditioning machine BUCHER-GUYER AG MASCHINENFABRIK 12 July 1971 [24 July 1970] 32552/71 Heading A1F Conveying drum 5, rotated in direction 27 and arranged behind disc mower 7 with respect to the direction of travel of the machine unit, has conveying tools 13 on its surface used to transport material through a channel formed by the guide wall 14 and the drum 5 surface to a pivotal comb 19 having conditioning comb teeth 18, and then deposit the material behind conveying drum 5 onto the ground. Disc mower assembly 7 consists of four discs 9 driven by transmission housing 8 which is slidable on the ground, the discs being rotatable in pairs in mutually opposite senses, and having diametrically oppositely situated cutting tools 11 pivotally mounted by bolts 10 and mounted at an angle of 90‹ with respect to the cutting tools 11 of neighbouring disc 9. Comb unit 19, situated in opening 16 which extends over the entire length of guide wall 14, consists of a comb spine 17 and comb teeth 18 and is adjusted by mechanism 20 consisting of adjustment lever 23 which may be selectively engaged by means of pawl 21 at ratchet portion 22 of rigid plate 24. Tension spring 26 suspended between plate 24 and strut 25 draws comb unit 19 towards plate 24. In another embodiment, the comb has a rectangular cross-section and has another similarly constructed; pivotally adjustable comb connected to it by a turnbuckle and lever having holes, permitting the combs to be inclined at different angles to one another. The combs may be replaced by press rolls or toothed discs of large enough diameter such that their shafts are located outside the conveying channel 15, the rolls and toothed discs being either driven by contact with the drum or by an external drive. In another embodiment consisting of two conditioning units 39, the drum mower consists of four cylindrical drum members 42 which rotate in pairs in opposite senses.
