PURPOSE:To measure the nonmagnetic long material magnetically and accurately, by attaching magnetic bodies to the nonmagnetic long material at a specified interval. CONSTITUTION:When the nonmagnetic long material 10 passes a magnetic body attaching device 12 which is provided along the running path of the nonmagnetic long material 10, the magnetic bodies are intermittently attached. The magnetic body which is attached to the long material 10 is magnetized by an adjacent magnetizer 14. When the magnetized point of the long material passes an auxiliary magnetism detector 16, a pulse signal is generated. Said signal is sent to the magnetic body attaching device 12, and the magnetic body attaching device 12 attaches the next magnetic body to the long material. When the first magnetized point reaches a main magnetism detector 18, said magnetism detector 18 generates a pulse signal. The signal is sent to the magnetizer 14 and the next magnetic body is magnetized and a pulse counter 20 is operated. This operation is repeated, and the long material 10 is measured from the counted value of the pulse counter 20 and a distance l. |
