PURPOSE:To adjust the thickness of a matching layer by instantaneously measuring the thickness from the end thereof to the surface of a piezo-electric vibrator utilizing an eddy current type displacement meter. CONSTITUTION:As shown by A, in this ultrasonic transducer, a reference value is obtained, a) when an electrode of a piezo-electric vibrator 2 directly contacts a displacement sonsor 5 before the setting of a matching layer or b) when the layer is set at a fixed space with a supporting base 6. Then, as shown by B, after the formation of the matching layer, a measurement is made a) when the matching layer 1 directly contacts the displacement sensor 5 or b) when the layer is set at a space with the supporting base 6. The comparison of the measured value with the reference value enables an accurate measurement of the thickness of the matching layer. Thus, the use of an eddy current type displacement meter permits the measurement of the thickness of the matching layer simply by bringing the ultrasonic transducer with the matching layer thereby simplifying the measuring operation for the adjustment of the thickness of a lambda/4 matching layer. |
