A transport installation for workpieces of different diameters and lengths, having a hanging conveyor (1), conveying devices (2), such as for example conveyor belts, arranged transversely to the conveying direction of the hanging conveyor, and transfer devices (3) arranged between the latter and the hanging conveyor. For the purposes of rapid and collision-free transfer of the workpieces (28) between the moving suspension (31) of the hanging conveyor (1) and the conveying devices (2), the workpiece receiving members (22, 33) of the suspension (31) and of the transfer device (3) consist, in each case, of at least two workpiece supports (23, 38) arranged at a distance apart, the workpiece supports (23) of the transfer device (3) being pivotable and being capable of being raised and lowered between the workpiece supports (38) of the hanging conveyor (1). <IMAGE>
