Flower stand with porous polyurethane chamber base on porous blocks - which drain and ventilate base internally between wet refills

In a "jardiniere", or double walled tub for displaying growing plants, the porous base of the inner chamber is supported clear of the base of the outer body by one or more porous blocks of a rigid hydrophilic cellular material, such as polyurethane foam. The porous base of the inner chamber is of similar material. Water is introduced between the inner and outer base walls via vertical passages at one or more positions in the wall structure, e.g. in opposite corners. The porous spacers absorb and pass residual water from the base cavity through the inner base to the contained earth etc, thus draining the false base cavity sufficiently to also allow ventilation of the contained soil from below between successive water priming cycles. The area of the supporting block(s) may be about 1/15th of the area of the porous internal base.
