Device for controlling the speed of internal combustion engines, preferably when idling, a pneumatic proportional governor controlled by the intake pipe pressure by way of a measuring element actuating a slide valve covering a feed duct as control element so that a proportional control is obtained, preferably for the idling speed. In this the measuring element and the control element designed as slide valve may be identical. By means of a current/power transformer an electromechanical correction variable is superimposed on this basic control system, the integral behaviour of the correction variable eliminating the otherwise permanent control deviation of the basic mechanical governor.
