Machine for driving tunnels and underground roadways includes a universally pivoting arm with cutting tool and equipment for ascertaining inclinations and angular and parallel deviations and a computer coupled to equipment for producing proportional signals to the inclinations and angular and parallel deviations of the machine. The machine (1) is also fitted with a housing (14) carried by damping links in which is mounted a laser and the equipment for determining the inclinations and angular deviations. The laser is fastened in position parallel to the floor (11) of the roadway and lined up against a receiver (18) positioned in the roadway (3). The receiver (18) is receiving a light beam (17) from the laser and is transmitting correcting signals corresponding to the parallel deviations to the machine (1).
