<p>The winding roller (1) for strip material has one or more flats (2) machined on it, so that fittings can be attached for securing the end of the strip at the start of a winding operation. Flats can be equally spaced around the periphery and can also be spaced along the periphery along a line parallel to its axis of rotation, for a distance equal to the width of the strip. Incorporated in the fittings are small dia. rollers (4) supported so that they do not extend beyond the dia. of winding roller. The ends of the small rollers can be retained by shaped blocks (3) attached to the flats, or by members shaped as frames, holding the rollers in position.
