Nylon floss for cleaning teeth - has short section with disarranged fibres which acts as brush

A nylon thread has a long section of closely packed fibres and a short section in which the fibres are disarranged so that they form a brush. When the nylon thread is pulled through the gap between neighbouring teeth the brush section presses against the surfaces of the teeth and removes any particles of food which have lodged in the gap. The tooth cleaner is made by passing nylon yarn of 600 denier through a bath containing polyamide dissolved in alcohol. The yarn is then dried and pressed over the long length but not over the other section. The solution remaining on this latter section. causes the fibres to curl outwards and form a brush.
