Compounds of the following formula and their acid addition salts <IMAGE> wherein R1 and R2 are selected from hydrogen, halogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, lower alkylthio, nitro, amino, trifluoromethyl, or cyano; R3 is hydrogen or lower alkyl; R4 and R5 are selected from hydrogen, halogen, lower alkyl, or lower alkoxy; the dashed line indicates the optional presence of a double bond; and A is straight or branched chain alkylene of 1-8 carbons; are disclosed. These compounds exhibit antidepressant activity. In addition, these compounds are useful as antiinflammatory agents.
