The invention relates to a centring apparatus for palletising machines. The object is to centre the respective articles to be transferred from the inside. The previous external centring arrangements are in some cases unsuitable because they cannot be used fully satisfactorily, especially in the case of easily deformable reusable boxes. With the centring apparatus according to the present invention, this object is achieved in so far as internal centring is undertaken at the points which are generally subjected to slight deformation. The box centring apparatus consists of centring members coinciding with the inner corner regions of the boxes to be transferred, these members being fixed to a base plate. The base plate itself has, corresponding to the inner contour of the box, recesses at least in some areas of the lateral and longitudinal surfaces of each box, making it possible for additional grippers to be swung at these points into corresponding recesses in the boxes. The use of the centring apparatus makes it superfluous to use a depressor apparatus, which is otherwise customary.
