PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of flaws in the long-sized parts of a mold for continuous casting made of copper alloy plates on account of sliding with short-sized parts in said mold by forming porous metallic layers on both end faces of the copper alloy plates in the short side parts which slide at all times, and impregnating a solid lubricant in said layers. CONSTITUTION:A mold made of a copper alloy for continuous casting is assembled of a pair of longisde parts 1 and a pair of short-sized parts 2, and the width of a continuously cast ingot is changed by sliding the parts 2 on the inside surfaces of the parts 1. In this case, porous layers 2-a of metals or alloys such as Ni, Ni-Fe, Ni-Mn or the like are formed on the sliding surfaces in both end parts of the parts 2, and a solid lubricant such as MOS2, WS2, BN or (CF)n as a high-temp. lubricant is impregnated in these layers, whereby the self-lubricating films are formed. Despite frequent sliding of the parts 2 of the mold on the inside surfaces of the parts 1 in order to change the width of the continuously cast slab, the flawing of the surfaces is obviated and the cracking of the mold by the flaws is prevented. |
