The doctor assembly for a paper making machine has a bearing with a journal(12) axially oscillated in an annular bearing housing(13). An insert(22) between journal & housing has axially extending grooves(23). Annular lip seals(18,19) at the end of the insert permit lubricant flow axially outwards from the bearing to the pressure spaces(20,21) between the lip seals & end seals(16,17) axially outwardly of the insert. Passages(32) between the pressure spacer & the center of the bearing, carry the "pumped" lubricant. Check valves(36,37) in further passages(32) prevent back flow.
