The invention relates to a circuit arrangement for protecting components in current-controlled converter circuits against overvoltages. In order also to protect the semiconductors against unacceptable overvoltages which occur as a result of disturbances on the motor side, the converter output voltage is rectified in a diode bridge and is damped in a parallel-connected RC element, a protection thyristor which is connected in parallel with the RC element and short-circuits the converter output via a protection resistor is triggered in the event of a limit voltage being exceeded. In consequence, the converter output voltage cannot exceed a limit value which can be predetermined. The triggering of the protection thyristor results in a report to the converter controller, from which further measures are derived in order to switch off the converter.
