A system for providing motor vehicles with early warning of emergency services vehicles is proposed, which system serves to provide prompt warning to drivers that emergency service vehicles (such as for example fire service, police, emergency medical services, ambulances etc.) are approaching. Above all this is intended to refer to vehicles for whose use special traffic regulations apply, for example higher speed, priority even at a red traffic light. The early warning system comprises a transmission component in the emergency vehicle and a reception and signalling component with audible and/or visual transmission in the motor vehicle. Vehicles performing an emergency function transmit, as well as the customary visual and audible signals, additional pulses or signals which can be received by appropriate devices in the motor vehicle. The received pulses/signals are decoded if necessary, amplified and converted in the motor vehicle into visual and/or audible signals which can be perceived by the driver of the vehicle (and passengers).
