A modular belt consists of a large number of plate- or lattice-shaped modules made from plastic. The modules have a plurality of mutually spaced and closed or almost closed eyelets at two opposite module edges. The eyelets form a unit with the modules and can in each case be pushed into the intervening spaces between the eyelets of adjoining modules and are connected thereto by transverse rods to form the belt. The deflection and drive of the belt are provided by toothed wheels arranged on shafts. The teeth of the wheels engage on projections arranged on the underside of the modules or on the eyelets or in depressions in the modules. Noise-damping discs (2) of highly elastically deformable material are arranged adjacent to the toothed wheels (1), their diameter being greater than the diameter (I) of the circle on which lie the bottoms of the grooves formed between the teeth. <IMAGE>
