PURPOSE:To inspect a break or fraying etc. automatically, by inspecting optically a plane-shaped material to be inspected. CONSTITUTION:In case of inspecting e.g. a rolled towel RT as a material to be inspected, a detection element DE2 for receiving reflected light from a light source L and the towel RT is arranged on one side and a detection element DE1 for receiving transmitted light of the towel RT is arranged on the other side putting the transporting face of the towel RT therebetween. The surface dirt of the towel RT is detected by the decrease of photodetected quantity of the element DE2 and a break or fraying of the towel RT is detected by the increase of photodetecting quantity of the element DE1. Further, the variation of increased and decreased quantity of transmitted light is brought about at a joint or the tail end of the towel RT. The condition of the towel RT is decided by comparing these detected signals with the standard value signal by a decision circuit JUD. |
