A weft storage drum(20) for shuttleless looms has a conical section (20a) on which weft(7) turns are wound(27) for transfer to a cylindrical integral drum section(20b) in sufficient number for two successive picks under the control of three catcher hooks(31a, 32a, 33a) operating synchronously with the loom. the third hook(33a) operates first to release the weft length between itself and the second hook(32a), for the first pick. The second hook then release the second pick length between itself and the first hook(31a), which is near the smallest diam. of the conical section (20a) of the drum(20) and holds weft turns wound onto the section while picking occurs, but then releases them to the cylindrical section (20b)
