The invention relates to a device for flexibly and easily generating microprogram software for logic units such as, for example, a processor circuit or a memory logic, taking into consideration simultaneous real-time operation. Using such a device, it should also be possible to change the test data quickly and without complications during the function testing of logic units, for example fast processor circuits and memory logic circuits. The program data carriers (PROMs) provided for a microprogrammable logic unit are replaced by a variable data carrier (RAM) in the word generator. The logic unit being developed or tested remains unchanged apart from the data carriers and operates as if the PROMs were in the circuit. The invention can be used in test instruments for developing stations in which the software for microprogrammable control systems is generated. <IMAGE>
