In a sanitary single-lever mixer tap, the cap which closes off the top of the housing of the fitting cannot be tilted but can be rotated together with the handle. The handle reaches around or over the cap; a strut which passes through the cap on the side facing away from the user establishes the connection between the handle and the pivoted lever arranged under the cap. The pivoted lever, for its part, is in operative connection with the regulating elements of the mixer tap, for example with known ceramic discs. By means of the arrangement described, the gap between the cap and the remainder of the housing of the fitting is kept extremely small in all the operating states. The opening in the cap required to establish a connection between the handle and the pivoted lever is situated on the side facing away from the user where there is little risk of splashing or soiling and where it is furthermore largely concealed from the view of the user. A description is given of special adapters by means of which it is possible to use conventional control cartridges with the handle and cap according to the invention. <IMAGE>
