A light barrier having a flat, essentially monolithic housing is closed by a cover arranged on one of the flat sides. The housing has at least two attachment holes arranged close to the corners of the flat sides. The housing is constructed in a large-volume manner by means of inner sides which run at least partially parallel to the outsides of the narrow walls. The cover, which has the outline of the flat sides, is attached to the housing by means of elastic locking devices.
