The invention relates to a candle with a floating wick. In order to keep the floating wick constantly at the centre of the candle body (1), a guide element (7) is provided which can move along the vertical axis (6) of the candle, relative to the wick holder (2), during the burning process or can change in length, and may be either a guide pin which is axially displaceable on the wick holder (2) in the direction of the axis (6) of the candle or a body attached to the underside of the wick holder (2) which can be drawn apart in the direction of the axis (6) of the candle. The body which can be drawn apart may be a guide spiral (17) of a thin, film-like material attached approximately centrally on the wick holder (2), its outer coils (17b) always following the transition region (5a) between the candle burning composition (5) of the candle body (1) which is still solid and that which is liquefied in the wax dish, and thus ensure vertical lowering of the floating wick in accordance with the burning-away of the candle. In order to improve the burning-away of the candle, moreover, one or more arcuate wicks (3, 3a, 3b, 3c) may be arranged on the wick holder (2), with their ends dipping into the liquefied candle burning composition (5). Such an arcuate wick also ensures an unmistakable flame appearance. <IMAGE>
