PURPOSE:To provide multi-color light emitting EL element of film type with high brightness in light emission and high yield in production by laying a plurality of EL elements with different light emission colors one over another in such a way that the picture elements are not overlapped, and thereby utilizing the picture element area effectively. CONSTITUTION:No.1 EL element 1 of film type and No.2 EL element 2 of film type with different light emission color are fixed to a fixing member 3 separately from each other in such a way that the back face electrode 6a of No.1 EL element 1 faces the arrangement gap of the transparent back-face electrode 6b of No.2 EL element 2. When voltage is impressed on the transparent electrode 2a and back-face electrode 6a in No.1 EL element 1, a light emitting layer 4a emits light, and light emission color dependent upon the light emitting layer 4a is obtained penetrating a transparent base 1a. When voltage is impressed, on the other hand, on an electrode 2b and the transparent back-face electrode 6b in No.2 EL element 2, another light emitting layer 4b emits light, and a light emission color different from the light emitting layer 4a of No.1 EL element 1 depending upon the light emitting layer 4b is obtained penetrating No.1 EL element 1. Thereby the picture element area can be utilized effectively, and the yield in formation of electrode pattern enhanced.
