In a word processing station which is provided with a display device (SG), the screen (BS) of the display device (SG) is provided with a line for indicating the storage area which is still available in each case in a message store (NS). When a diskette device is used as message store (NS), the available storage area is indicated by the number (SP) of tracks still available on the diskette being indicated. In addition, the number (ZV) of lines which can still be written and the number (ZE) of characters which no longer result in a whole line can be indicated. Furthermore, a message number (NN) and a current line number (ZN) of the respective message can be displayed. The number (ZV) of lines which can still be written is determined by dividing the number of characters which are still to be accommodated in the available storage area by the number of characters per line. The remainder possibly produced by the division indicates the number (ZE) of characters which no longer result in a whole line. <IMAGE>
