<p>PURPOSE:To efficiently ferment high-alkaline difficulty-decomposable sludge, by arranging sewage sludge or the like, fermented in a high-temperature zone, at the windward side and unfermented sludge or the like at the leeward side, piling up each sludge as a layer, and doing the most proper aeration control. CONSTITUTION:Sludge or the like 1 adjusted at pH 12 by addition of lime is accumulated as a layer inside a fermenting shaft vessel 2. High-temperature fermented matter 3 in an active fermenting state is further accumulated on the unfermented sludge or the like 1. Air is blown from the upside of the high-temperature fermented matter 3. The total amount of the air to be blown to the high-temperature fermented matter 3 located at the windward side is determined at the level such that the value of the total air-blowing amount divided by the volume of the high-temperature fermented matter is similar tow or near an air- blowing rate per volume unit just before the high-temperature fermented matter is charged. The high-temperature fermented matter subjected to controlled seration is held in a highly active state, and the thermal energy of the air passed through the high-temperature fermented matter is transmitted to the unfermented sludge layer without substantial heat loss.</p> |
