A haymaking machine is provided with at least one driven raking wheel mounted on an essentially vertical shaft supported by a supporting member. This raking wheel carries a number of raking tines which are arranged in pairs and are directed towards the ground and which are formed by the legs of helical springs. Every two helical springs coiled in opposition are connected to one another by means of a U-shaped loop which is fastened rotatably to the raking wheel. In order to provide a high-performance haymaking machine of simple construction, which, as a result of its tine design and tine arrangement, can either be used for tedding or swathing or, if appropriate, also, as a universal machine, be changed over from one mode of operation to the other, at least the middle parts of the tines (41, 42) of each pair of tines span an essentially vertical plane which extends at least approximately parallel to the centre line (53') of the helical springs (52, 53) which is arranged approximately tangentially to their circle of rotation. <IMAGE>
