In the case of a conveyor for conveying piece goods, having a frame (1), a belt-like or chain-like driven conveying means (2) which is mounted in the said frame and a lock for halting the foremost piece goods item in each case, in order to permit the accumulation and/or collection of piece goods items of different lengths, with full utilisation of the accumulating section, there are provided, as well as the driven conveying means, a number of non-driven free-running lifting rollers (4), which can be raised via a lifting device controlled by the conveyed material above the operating level of the conveying means and/or can be lowered below this level. <IMAGE>
