PURPOSE:To prepare the titled compound useful as a dye-releasing agent for color photography, synthetic intermediate of pharmaceuticals, etc., in high purity and yield, by reacting an aromatic sulfonic acid with an acid chloride containing phosphorus or sulfur in the presence of sulfolane. CONSTITUTION:The sulfonyl chloride of formula II (Ar is aromatic group) can be prepared by reacting the sulfonic acid of formulaIwith an acid chloride containing phosphorus or sulfur, in the presence of sulfolane. The P- or S-containing acid chloride is preferably phosphorus oxychloride, thionyl chloride, etc., and its amount is about 1-20mol per 1mol of the acid of formulaI. The amount of sulfolane is about 50ml-5l per 1mol of the acid of formulaI. The reaction is carried out at 30-100 deg.C usually for about 5min-3hr. The objective compound can be prepared under mild conditions with simple procedure. |
