PURPOSE:An alkali metal salt and/or a naphthalenedisulfonate salt are added to the aqueous system containing a photocatalyst, an electron acceptor and an electron donor to promote the formation of hydrogen. CONSTITUTION:An aqueous solution containing a ruthenium-bipyridyl complex or zinc tetra-M-alkylpyridyl porphyrin complex as a photocatalyst, an electron acceptor, and electron donor and a metallic catalyst is prepared. Then, an alkali metal salt and/or a naphthalenedisulfate salt are added to the solution. The addition of these compounds increases the amount of the hydrogen formed, when light is irradiated. |
