<p>A fitted sheet which covers a bed mattress is formed of a piece of e.g. extensible knitted fabric, which is rectangular, with rounded corners. An elastic ribbon is mounted on the edge of the opening, so that gathers form all around the opening. The elastic ribbon is covered by a ruff or edging piece, to limit the stretch and improve the appearance. The edging assembly is oversewn under tension, so that the fabric may be distributed variably to the corners in relation to the sides of the rectangle after sewing. The sheet requires no sewing other than the insertion of the elastic at the hem. Exact positioning of the sheet on the mattress is not necessary. Possible shrinkage during washing does not affect the rapid covering of the mattress with the sheet.</p> |
