Inlet arrangement for an internal combustion engine

A passage formed by a widened bore or a groove in an inlet valve guide is flow-connected to an auxiliary air bore bridging a throttle valve. The valve shaft carried in the valve guide has an annular web, which keeps the flow connection between the auxiliary air bore and an inlet bore blocked up to a predetermined lift of the inlet valve, preferably until the exhaust valve is closed. In the auxiliary air bore a control valve can be arranged controlling its through-flow in response to certain operating parameters of the engine.
