A method for surface treatment of an aluminum alloy sheet, in which the coating subjected to a severe forming work retains an adequate adhesive strength; an aluminum alloy sheet subjected to such surface treatment; and a surface treated aluminum alloy sheet coated with a thermoplastic resin. The coated aluminum alloy sheet is characterized by being manufactured by applying a silane treatment using a silane coupling agent or a composite treatment comprising the silane treatment and other surface treatments to an aluminum alloy sheet and then coating the sheet with a thermoplastic resin.
