PURPOSE:To remarkably drop the electrolytic voltage in an electrolytically concentrating method for oxygen by feeding alkali hydroxide to an anode chamber divided by a cation exchange membrane and a gas contg. O2 to a cathode chamber, by forming a specified porous layer on a surface of the membrane. CONSTITUTION:A porous layer not acting as an electrode and permeable to gas and liq. is formed on at least one side of a cation exchange membrane. This layer is preferably formed by bonding particles to the membrane surface. The particles may be electrically conductive or nonconductive and may be made of inorg. or org. material, yet a material with corrosion resistance to an electrolytic soln. is preferably used. For example, a porous layer on the anode side is made of element belonging to the IVA, IVB or VB group in the periodic table, iron group element, Cr or the like, and a porous layer on the cathode side is made of said element, Ag, Zr-base metal, stainless steel, C, SiC, polyamide resin or the like. |
