Al members such as tubes (20) are joined together by rougheningthe surface of one member, coating this surface with an oxidation preventing layer (chromatic conversion coating), applying an adhesive (epoxy resin) (24) to the mating surfaces and curing the adhesive to form a joint. Used for repairing Al heat exchangers (10) coils used in refrigeration and air conditioning plants. Stronger joints are prepd. by chromating the roughened surface of th replacement part prior to applying the adhesive and this eliminates the need of chemical cleaning.
