PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to construct a higher-density recording system than a conventional one by optimizing a film thickness and a residual magnetized amount of a metallic magnetic layer as a magnetic layer according to a MR head. SOLUTION: A metallic magnetic thin film, which is a magnetic layer, is decreased in thickness and an amount of residual magnetization more than a conventional one, and an optimized magnetic recording medium (magnetic tape) has a metallic magnetic film formed on a non-magnetic supporting body, and the product value Mr.δof the residual magnetized amount Mr and the film thicknessδof the metallic magnetic thin film is made to 1-5 memu/cm<2> . A signal is reproduced in an area in which the MR reproducing head is keeping its linearity by optimizing the product value Mr.δof the residual magnetized amount Mr and the film thicknessδof the metallic magnetic thin film, and a non-distorted characteristic is obtained. |
