PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a developing device in which the shaved groove of a developer carrier and chips are prevented from occurring due to slidable contact between the developer carrier and a carrying quantity regulation member and high-quality developing can be obtained over a long term. SOLUTION: This developing device is provided with a frictional force reduction means reducing frictional force between a developing roller 2 and a regulation blade 3 at the end parts of a slidable contact surface S in the width direction. The frictional force reduction means is provided by coating the parts 13 of the roller 2 corresponding to the end parts 3a of the blade 3 in the width direction with a resin. The friction coefficient of the coating part 13 with respect to the elastic blade 3 is set to be comparatively smaller than silicone rubber and the frictional force (friction coefficient×vertical load) at the end parts of the slidable contact surface S in the width direction is more reduced than that at the central part of the surface S.
