<p>A rubber pig for sealing open-ended pipelines comprises an inflatable rubber cylinder sealed with flanges at each end. Bands of hardened studs around the circumference of the cylinder at each end grips the pipe wall when the device is inflated to a suitable pressure, while the plain section of cylinder wall between the two bands makes direct contact with the wall. The studded sections provide mechanical resistance against pipe pressure, while the plain section prevents leaks. Used for sealing of pipelines even in lines contaminated with wet, oily or slippery materials.</p> |
