To achieve a high production rate at a low outlay in terms of investment and energy, fibres carried and transported by an airstream are conveyed continuously into a stationary elongate fibre-collecting groove (60), from which they are then drawn off continuously from one end, combined to form a yarn (211). The fibres are fed, for example, through a fibre-guide channel (209) which opens out in front of the fibre-collecting groove (60). The fibre-collecting groove (60) possesses side walls which, if appropriate, converge towards the groove bottom (61). The groove bottom (61) can be deaerated continuously, if appropriate positively. A rotation about the longitudinal axis of the yarn can be imparted continuously to the yarn (211) in the fibre-collecting groove (60) or in its vicinity. <IMAGE>
