For frames for producing composite profile windows, use is made of hollow extruded profiles (1, 2, 3) which are produced in one piece, consist of lightweight metal and into the delimited interiors (4) of which a hardenable chemical substance which is capable of providing heat insulation is introduced. Defined wall regions (7) of the hollow extruded profile (1, 2, 3) then have to be removed from the resulting insulating body without cutting in order to avoid the formation of a metallic heat bridge. By means of the invention, the transition of the wall portion (7), which can be separated off, to the adjoining leg (11) of the hollow extruded profile (1, 2, 3) is configured by forming a gap (8) such that, when an expansion tool (15, 20) is passed through the gap (8), the wall portion (7) is separated off in a controlled manner, the expansion forces exerting tensile loading on the weakened wall portion (9), transversely to the longitudinal axis of the hollow extruded profile (1, 2, 3). <IMAGE>
