In the continuous gluing of wood chips and other lignocellulose-containing particles with binder, the object is to distribute the binder as homogeneously as possible on the surface of the wood chips. For this purpose, horizontal mixing tanks are known which possess a driven mixing shaft in their interior and are equipped with tools which in part also feed the binder. To achieve a more homogeneous, that is to say more uniform, distribution of the binder on the surface of the wood chips, the invention provides first of all to increase the surface area of the binder, that is to say to form a binder/air mixture, before the binder encounters the relatively large surface of the wood chips or comes into contact therewith. For this purpose the binder is injected at high pressure into a zone free of chip material and at a distance from the ring of chips, and atomised to form a mist for which purpose it is necessary to provide a clear path so that the binder/air mixture can form and expand. The pipes (21 and 23) for feeding the binder may be provided either in the interior on a driveable mixing shaft (9) or else stationary in the region of the tank wall. It is essential that the nozzles (22) of the pipes (21 and 23) terminate within the space surrounded by the ring of chips and at a distance from the ring of chips (15). <IMAGE>
