Process for delignifying lignocellulose material

A process is described for delignifying lignocellulose material by a chemical digestion process. The digestion is carried out in the presence of a 9-nitroanthracene compound or a derivative thereof, such as e.g. a 9-nitro-9,10-dihydroanthracene compound or a 9-nitro-anthrone compound or an anthraquinone-9-oxime.
