Thermally insulating lining on cooled supporting wall - esp. where wall surrounds nuclear reactor, and lining falls off wall if its temp. exceeds critical value

A plant employed for the prodn. of heat is surrounded by a vertical wall (a) which is a good heat conductor. The external surface of wall (a) is cooled by any known method, but its internal surface facing the plant is covered by thermally insulating panels held on walls (a) by bolts which slope downwards. If the heat radiated by the plant exceeds a critical value, the bolts melt so the panels fall of wall (a) due to gravity, so more heat can be removed by the coolant flowing along the external surface of wall (a). Several layers of rigid mineral insulation panels are pref. used and are clamped by bolts made pref. of an Al-Mg alloy. Used e.g. to surround pipes, boilers, or a fast neutron nuclear reactor cooled by molten Na.
