The invention relates to a device for the transverse cutting of a moving film web in the course of winding the film web to form a film roll. The principle construction includes a transverse cutting knife and a transverse cutting knife holder. The transverse cutting knife can be moved towards the film web to be cut and synchronously with the film web. For this purpose, the transverse cutting knife holder is rotationally driven about a knife-holder shaft. The transverse cutting knife possesses a toothed blade whose teeth grip into the film web at the commencement of the cutting operation. The transverse cutting knife holder is traction-driven by the film web itself, via the transverse cutting knife. As a consequence, complicated measures, from the point of view of control or of the drive, are not required for the synchronous drive described above. <IMAGE>
