<p>The lighting unit comprises a lamp whose light-emitting surface is not of the spot type, and a lens system. Light distribution is effected by interaction between the lens system (11) and part only of the light-emitting surface of the lamp (10). The remainder of the light-emitting surface has a covering (12) giving good reflection into the interior of the lamp. The covering can be an integral part of the lamp, or external to it, and the emitting surface can consist of a coating of illuminating material. The reflective coating of the covering can have a diffusive action.</p> |
