The invention relates to a non-return valve. The valve is intended, in particular, for medical use, e.g. in an artificial respirator. It is the aim of the invention to provide a non-return valve which provides a hermetic seal in the closed position and offers virtually no flow resistance in the open position, independently of the gas flow. This aim is achieved in that the non-return valve has a flow pipe (8) whose outlet orifice (9) can be sealed by a diaphragm (11) which is connected to the outer edge (10) of the pipe (8), has at least one opening (12) outside the pipe (8) and is pressed with a preselected force against the front side of the flow pipe (8). <IMAGE>
