PURPOSE:To provide a typewriter capable of automatically adjusting the printing pitch to the types contained in a type storage case newly set, by a method wherein the printing pitches in line and column directions are determined by detecting a code provided in a type storage case, and a platen is driven with the printing pitches. CONSTITUTION:Detection outputs are obtained from sensors 9 according to a combination of presence and absence of holes 8a in a code plate 8 provided for the type storage case 3, and are processed by a controlling part 12 to select and extract the printing pitch information corresponding to each type. According to the information thus selected, the revolution pitches of a platen-rotating motor 15 and a platen-driving motor 16 are controlled through a driving part 13 for theta-rotation of the platen and a driving part 14 for moving the platen in Z direction. |
