When electric cables are buried in the ground, they are often covered by a protective plate before the earth is 'back-filled'. This can leave air-pockets which act as heat insulators, causing the cable to overheat. The present protection sleeve fits snugly over the cable, and is made of heat-conductive material. The protective sleeve (1) has a circular cross-section (2) except at the bottom where two radial flanges (3) stick out. When the cable has been laid in the trench, the sleeve is snapped over it and the earth is replaced in the trench. It can be equipped with metal re-inforcing for extra protection, and with holes in the wall to allow water to enter to make a good thermal connection.
|
