The pump consists of a primary, double acting piston (2), above ground, a secondary double acting piston (12) below the surface of the underground reservoir (1) and an upper reservoir (4). The upper reservoir has a low level outlet connected to the underside (5) of the primary piston. The upper chamber of this cylinder is connected to the lower chamber (9) of the secondary cylinder. The reciprocating action of the primary piston drives the secondary piston hydraulically and pumps water up into the reservoir (4). The hydraulically operated changeover valves (20,21,31,32,44,44') ensure the synchronism of the pump. Exhaust and filling connections (23,29) are provided and a discharge pipe (19) is connected to the lower chamber (5) of the primary cylinder.
