The sealing jaw (10) has an electrical resistor heating element (17, 20) for generating heat. In order to transfer the heat to the sealing surface (12) of the sealing jaw in such a way as to produce a uniform temperature distribution on the latter, an envelope (15, 21) of a highly heat-conductive metal, for example aluminium, is arranged between the heating element and the sealing jaw.
